If you were autoprinting there would be an easy solution within the
RDD... I wouldn't have a clue how to manipulate the print manager
after Vantage.

Thank you, but that is way too much information. We currently use Excel
(don't ask) to schedule jobs and I only need the two extra items -
started or not and current operation - to be added to the existing Excel
schedule.

Linda,

Are you using MES for data collection?

If so you can create a BAQ/Dashboard looking at the LaborDtl table which you can then add a tracker to in the dashboard so you can filter the results on job number.

We use the LaborDtl & LaborHead table and we can see the jobs (started/not started), if the job is started what operation is it at, who is working on it, how long have they been working on it etc etc.

I can send the BAQ if you would like to see if (out of group)?

Thanks.

Yeah I figured. But you can simplifY that report down which I have done a myriad of times because it indeed shows you jobs started and current op

or if you are just wanting a query of info what does "started" mean to you
Start setup activity?
Start production activity?
If you want hours against Labordtl. On first operation?
If you want qty on first operation?
JobOper and JobAsmbl and JobHead are the tables you want

Thank you very much. We don't use setup, we generally only have a
quantity of one and we don't have very many operations so that should
simplify things. I think they just want to know "where" the job is -
the operation that is currently being worked on. I will give these

Try a BAQ like this:

for each JobHead where (Â JobHead.JobClosed = false ANDÂ JobHead.JobComplete = false ANDÂ JobHead.JobEngineered = true ANDÂ JobHead.JobFirm = true ANDÂ JobHead.JobReleased = true ANDÂ JobHead.ProdQty > JobHead.QtyCompleted) no-lock , first JobOper where (Â JobOper.OpComplete = false ANDÂ JobOper.ProdComplete = false ANDÂ JobOper.RunQty > JobOper.QtyCompleted) and (JobHead.Company = JobOper.Company and JobHead.JobNum = JobOper.JobNum) no-lock by JobHead.JobNum by JobOper.OprSeq.

Display (all JobOper columns) JobNum, PartNum, OpSeq, OpCode, OpDesc, RunQty & QtyCompleted.

Sort by JobNum & OpSeq ascending.

Play with it and modify to your specific info needs to suit. You can than make it into a BAQ Report, a dashboard, or put it on a recurrring (sufficient frequency) export schedule (export to CSV and then use the CSV file as a datasource for excel).

You can create a BAQ with JobHead and LaborDtl. Outer join the LaborDtl table. Then use a calculated field to determine if the job has been started based upon the existence of any labor transaction.

Calculated field STARTED: If JobHead.JobNum = LaborDtl.JobNum then "YES" Else "NO"

From this you can create a report which can be exported to Excel.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for supplying all the criteria. I think I can easily recreate
this query in Excel and use index/match to lookup the "first" incomplete
operation. The current schedule is created line by line with a macro so
that it can be formatted in the way they are used to with an entire row
inserted to hold each different date, plus permit information from the
order memo table after each project. They can't use anything that looks
any different or they will be lost and won't be able to produce any
signs, lol.

Glad it helped Linda.

This is really a carryover from our legacy system (where we did the same with odbc SQL).

Because of the 'First JobOper.....' statement (middle of BAQ) along with the 'by' and 'sort' (asc) 'joboper.jobnum & joboper.opseq' statements, the query only returns the 1st OP (by OPSeq) per job that isn't marked complete (or still has open load with RunQty> Qtycompleted).

No need to filter out subsquent open OPs per job after the the current active WIP OP (as long as your labor reporting is trustworthy!).

(If you do overlapping or parallel OP processing - or your labor reporting isn't accurate enough to be confident in it, & want all open OPs per job, change the "first JobOper" statement in the middle of the BAQ to "For Each JobOper".... Then, as you indicated, you can use your own excel formulas or macro techniques to isolate and display the current WIP OPs based on your own rules of determining what is 'really' the 1st open WIP OP per released job.)

We also are using a vbscript macro formatted excel sheet for our machine shop dispatch so this basic BAQ (after adding/deleting displayed fields so it contains what you need) should work well for you. We use the nightly recurring BAQ export to CSV technique in combo on Vantage (trying not to hit the live db with odbc queries for performance reasons) with a windows task scheduled nightly launch of the excel file (with an Auto_Open vbscript so it autoexecutes, refreshes the data from the just dumped CSV file, formats, prints, saves & closes itself).

Rob

JobOper.RunQty > JobOper.QtyComplete d) and (JobHead.Company =
JobOper.Company and JobHead.JobNum = JobOper.JobNum) no-lock by
JobHead.JobNum by JobOper.OprSeq.

Display (all JobOper columns) JobNum, PartNum, OpSeq, OpCode, OpDesc,
RunQty & QtyCompleted.

Sort by JobNum & OpSeq ascending.

Play with it and modify to your specific info needs to suit. You can
than make it into a BAQ Report, a dashboard, or put it on a recurrring
(sufficient frequency) export schedule (export to CSV and then use the
CSV file as a datasource for excel).

Thank you very much. We don't use setup, we generally only have a
quantity of one and we don't have very many operations so that should
simplify things. I think they just want to know "where" the job is -
the operation that is currently being worked on. I will give these
tables a try as well as Chris' suggestion. Hopefully one of these
solutions will make the guys happy.

Linda

Yeah I figured. But you can simplifY that report down which I have done
a myriad of times because it indeed shows you jobs started and current
op

or if you are just wanting a query of info what does "started" mean to
you
Start setup activity?
Start production activity?
If you want hours against Labordtl. On first operation?
If you want qty on first operation?
JobOper and JobAsmbl and JobHead are the tables you want

Thank you, but that is way too much information. We currently use Excel
(don't ask) to schedule jobs and I only need the two extra items -
started or not and current operation - to be added to the existing Excel

schedule.

Hi Group,

I've been asked to create a report that shows the job number, whether
the job has been started and if so, what operation the shop is currently

working on. Would someone please point me in the right direction.

Regards,
Linda

That falls apart if the prior OP is complete and the next OP hasn't been activity started (set up or production) yet. (Tried it long ago.)

If you were autoprinting there would be an easy solution within the
RDD... I wouldn't have a clue how to manipulate the print manager
after Vantage.
