After working with 6.x and now with 8.x, I would agree that Progress -
by far - is the best choice. Simply for the reason that by using MS-SQL,
Vantage does not support connectivity "natively" to the database. While
this may not be a huge issue, it does add another step if/when you need
to troubleshoot problems. I will say looking at the table structure and
data is much easier with the MS-SQL tools (i.e. Enterprise Manager) than
some of the Progress tools, but still not enough to persuade me to use
or recommend using MS-SQL.
One thing to point out, at Perspectives 2006, Epicor spent a lot of time
promoting SQL Server 2005, but still hasn't changed Vantage to talk
directly to it...they still recommend using Progress.
Any additional thoughts?
