PO numbering

We are in the 200,000 range right now with no problems.

Thank you Lydia,
I have one more part to the question at this point then. Do you, or anyone
else know if there is a limit to the PO numbers. I understand somewhat the
structure of numbers in relation to (access) databases ...i.e., integer,
long... and I know there are limits involved at least in some cases. Can
anyone tell me if this applies to vantage/progress and if so, what the limit
is for PO numbers? We are now in the 5 digit range, but with this request
would be looking at moving to a 6 digit format.
Thanks again.
I have had a request from our purchasing manager to expand the range of PO#s
available to him.
If I understand correctly, he wants to be able to enter our "outside
process" POs with their number directly and not enter a separate PO with a
separate number. We do use the auto numbering feature, and are using
Vantage3 (looking toward upgrade shortly).
Can anyone give me advice on if this is possible/reasonable.
Thank you.

Aaron:

If you look in your module configuration, Purchase Management, whatever your
starting number is, he can use numbers LESS THAN the starting number,
otherwise all P.O.s are auto numbered.

HOWEVER, you might want to make sure this is ok with the accounting
department (controller) before you show the purchaser this, since letting
purchasers choose their own P.O. numbers is a small security/audit risk...if
the number is outside the "normal" range of P.O. numbers, it could possibly
be overlooked in reporting, but found at quarter-or-year-end.

Hope this helps.

Lydia
