TB = Typo BooBoo - should have been RB for Report Builder. Sorry.
The ENTRY function in RB is nice. Does all that positioning substring stuff automatically. Basically says to look for the Nth occurance in TargetString of data seperated by Xstring or in this case the Nth occurance in RepList sperated by Tilde (a formula field = CHR(126) ).
I am not that familiar with Crystal's built-in functions, but heck they are a report writer company and Progress isn't (dig dig), so Crystal ought to be able to figure out how to write an ENTRY type function.

Todd,
What is TB and is there a cleaner way to do this function using Crystal?
First salesperson
Local numbervar varFirstTilde := InStr (1, {%SalesReplistsubstring}, "~")-1;
If varFirstTilde <> 0 Then
Mid ({%SalesReplistsubstring}, 1, varFirstTilde)
Second salesperson
Local numbervar varsecondTilde := InStr (1, {%SalesReplistsubstring},
"~")-1;
If varsecondTilde <> 0 Then
Mid ({%SalesReplistsubstring}, 5, varsecondTilde)
Luckily all of my ID's are three letters. It appears your formula is much
simpler.

In 5.20 and prior (looks like different in 6.0 and up) they use the Tilde
(~) character to seperate values in the array. In TB the CHR(126) formula
will be a Tilde character. I set a variable as this then use a formula
like:
ENTRY(1,SalesRepList,Tilde)
to get a value out - in this case the first rep.
This ought to be enough to get you going on it. If not ask again.

Brian,
Is there a way to access the arrays in Report Builder???? I've been

do this??????

Subject: [Vantage] Please Epicor -Stop Using Array's
I know that this probably won't do any good here, but I'm looking for
moral support from my fellow report writers and I need to take a
moment to vent at the Epicor programmers.
We are upgrading from 5.0 to 6.0 and I can't stand some of the
changes they've made to the DB schema. For example, they've made the
Rep Commission information into array's. We were all complaining
about how the field RepList was an array with the Rep Codes separated
by ~'s. Well now the RepSplit, RepRate, RepSales, and RepComm fields
are now array's separated by ;'s. We've been begging them to get rid
of the RepList array and now they've compounded our problems by added
4 more. I've just learned that the Price Break info has been turned
into an array of 10 items.
Now, I am able to manipulate these array's into usable information,
but the information certainly isn't as easy to use as it was when
each instance of a certain topic was in its own field, and not thrown
into a useless array. It takes a lot of formulas to parse out the
information into usable pieces.
If anyone from Epicor development is out there, could you please
explain why you like to torture us with the array's, and for the love
of Pete, would you quit adding them to the Database structure.
Thanks,
Brian Stenglein
