Plain TXT Report Vantage 8.03.408

To grab plain text report that the system "prints", while the print
preview is on screen, route to the Epicor directory on the server to the
mfgsysdata directory on the server
(\\(servername\Epicor\mfgsysdata\Reports
<file:///\\(servername\Epicor\mfgsysdata\Reports> to the users
directory. You will usually find the text version of the report.

If columns and rows line up in the text file, you can import the data
using fixed field format into excel and resort the data to get rid of
the extraneous header and footer information.

from what epicor explained, plain txt report are progress report or data that is extracted from openedge/4gl which isn't stored in the server. the output from this report can't be exported to another software(excel). the only thing i can do is print or a virtual print as an xps file(which doesnt help when exporting to excel, doesnt hold the the format). i also created a crystal report from scratch but it runs really slow, it's not the same.

my question is there a way to stored or extract the data that is being outputted from this plain txt reports?

i dont have too much knowledge in regards to this subject but i wanted some guidance that will take on the right direction.

Thanks in Advance,

Viktor
I don't know about all plain text reports, but some that I am familiar with are automatically exported to a text file behind the scenes. In my case, whenever I run the Work In Process report or the Advance Billings and Deposits report, there is a copy of the file saved in my user folder on the server. Unless otherwise specified, Vantage/Vista will delete this report after a period of time, so I make a copy elsewhere if I want to preserve the report. I use some Excel files to parse these .txt reports, and that is sometimes the only way to get useful information from the system.

Depends on the report, but Excel is capable of importing plain text reports.

They usually need a little tweaking after, but the data can be imported.

I would think that it would be better to write a BAQ that gives you the same
results as the report, or at a minimum the same data needed for the report.
Then you can export the data and apply whatever calculations you would need
for further analysis of the data the way you want it.
