Are you progress or SQL?
If you are Progress then the two changes are made to the mfgsys.pf file in
Epicor905\server\config and in the mfgsysgroup properties of your database
in PET or OE Explorer.
If you are SQL then the two changes are made to the mfgsys.pf file in
Epicor905\server\config and in MS SQL Management Studio Server Properties -
Advanced - Network packet Size where the default is 4096. Be careful about
this if you are running any other DBs, there are some DBs out there for
programs and they don't like changing it to the non-default without making
changes to that program as well.
Be very careful with this though, it can easily suck up all the RAM in your
server which can end up slowing you down as well. I would suggest going to
4096, then 8192 then 16384 and see how it affects your RAM I wouldn't
suggest going above about 50%(at the most) as the default amount of RAM for
RAM in use just by having the system startup It will increase over time and
get close to or actually maxing out RAM which will bring almost everything
to a screeching halt.

Subject: [Vantage] Performance Tuning
Hi Guys,
Im readin the E9 help for performance tuning.
In the Network Tips section, it suggest
"Increase the maximum message buffer size (the -Mm configurator parameter).
By using a larger message buffer size, you improve database access because
fewer messages are sent and received. The default message buffer size is
only 1024 bytes. It is recommended that you increase this size to 16k. Both
client machines and the server must be configured to the same value. "
Where do I do this? Does anyone know?
What is the best thing that you have done to improve performance?
My server has 20GB memory but, only < 6GB is ever used - What can I do to
get it to use more Memory and less CPU? Should I be wanting this?
Thanks.
