We want to use PCID, I have 3 questions
- Could we put part on the fly on a PCID
- The dimensions in the package section are coming from where how could we update that
- Could qe assign a Sales Order to a PCID
We want to use PCID, I have 3 questions
Unsolicited adviceā¦ RUN ā¦donāt walkā¦ RUN the other way and never look back.
Actual picture of the PCID implementation below
We use PCID for shipping. Works great for us. Of course, they have made a lot of improvements since they introduced it.
PCID is great and we use it all over the place.
The package data is managed in Material Type, Package Type, and Package Codes.
One big gotcha if you are planning on using PCIDs and the Fulfillment Workbench together to fill orders:
When you pick parts into a PCID for a sales order using that workflow, the PCID gets a special status called āSOPICKā. PCIDs with this status cannot have ANY simple inventory transactions performed on them, like an inventory move. Basically all you can do with a PCID in SOPICK is pack/ship it.
I have an open Epicor Idea about this here: Allow inventory transactions on PCIDs in SOPICK status | Kinetic Ideas (aha.io)
Adding/removing items from a regular stock PCID is simple. Adding/removing items from a PCID in SOPICK status is doable, but it is a bit more complicated. You need to use the FWB/MRQ workflow to add items, and you need to use the āUnpick Sales Orderā process to remove items.
Thank you for the answer.
Itās not that bad. There are definitely limitation which are frustrating. But it can be useful in the correct use case.
This biggest miss in my opinion is the fact that you canāt use PCIDās in WIP. Which is why you canāt use parts on the fly (for make direct for example)
Thanks
There is an advanced PCID license which adds some WIP capabilities, we donāt have/use those features.
Havenāt looked at Kinetic yet, but in 10.2 the ability to add materials into a PCID on several inventory screens in missing. RMA, QA screens, Container Receipt. You have the PCID build split merge to fall back to to move inventory into a PCID. They can make this a little better.
Physical inventory counts are a little different when using PCID. We just finished implementing this. You have the option to select the pcids manually instead of ABC codes. There is a bin range function to select the pcids within an area. You have the option of counting the only the PCID itself or forcing the team to count the items within as well.
As many have hinted, it isnāt as bad as Jose says. In fact, Iāve implemented with a few customers BUT in almost all cases (except the simplest) have required customs to address short-comings. A simple one is that you CANāT create a PCID for goods when receiving a container!! You can in Receipt Entry but NOT Container Receipt Entry. In addition, if you do incoming inspection through Epicor - kiss PCID functionality good-bye on during your receiving process. Also, there are limits on PCID structure and trying to ship goods.
Agreed, we want to use containers and not being able to create a PCID from the container receipt screen is crazy. I mean we can add the items to a PCID after the fact but still.
Iām working on a mass PCID Build Split Merge customization - wish me luck
PCID is missing in too many places.
container receipt.
RMA
Quality (all of it)
We donāt use PCID, but somehow we have a bunch of serial numbers locked up with PCID 1 at random. PLEASE share the simple way to remove them!
PCID was ready for prime time in 2016, true story Epicor Sales lied their pants off.
