PCID Quantity Doesn't Match Labor Transaction Quantity

This is happening in Epicor 10.2.500.20 occasionally. Most of the time, the transactions flow just fine. I’ve not yet been able to determine what’s causing this. I do have a ticket open, but I’m hoping maybe someone has seen this before as I can only assume this is going to be hard to reproduce on demand.

PCID is being generated via Report Quantity during production. They generate a new PCID as they fill each container and Report Quantity at that time. These were all on the same job, by the same user, on the same day.

Labor transactions look like this:
Qty 2
Qty 3
Qty 5
Qty 5
Qty 3

PCID’s come out like this
Qty 2
Qty 3
Qty 5
Qty 3
Qty 3

So two pieces just disappeared somewhere. PCID has the wrong info associated with it. The Job looks correct from what I can tell.

On a pure stroke of luck, the user figured out what is causing this, but I don’t have a solution or work around yet. Reporting what we found here in case anyone else runs into it.

This only happens when there is overproduction on a job that produces parts in PCID’s.

Let’s say the Job Quantity is for 30. We Report Quantity and Generate a PCID for the following Quantities:

  • 10: Both Labor and PCID come out at 10
  • 12: Both Labor and PCID come out at 12
  • 15: Labor Records 15 BUT PCID is “capped” at total of Job Qty (30 - 10 - 12 = 8) so we get PCID of 8 and the remaining 7 just go off into the ether somewhere.

It doesn’t wind up in WIP, maybe outside of the PCID?

I notice Epicor will split one labor entry into two separate transactions/WIP entries when that labor entry is for more than the balance of the job quantity. One entry for the balance, and then one entry for the remainder. Not sure if this happens at every step, we usually only notice this on the final operation before a job receipt.

I’ll double check but I don’t think so. Good idea to check that though. Early word from support is working as intended. If it’s not disappearing at least, then it’s not completely broken.

So, the extra pieces don’t “show” in WIP as far as in Part Tracker goes. They full quantity does show in the Job Completed and I was able to do a non-PCID receipt for the extra pieces. So, maybe it’s not quite as bad as I initially thought, but it’s still wonky and I think we’ll just have to not allow overproduction.

Will post an update if I get anything new back from support.
