We are looking to start implementing PCIDs and are interested in anyone who has successfully done that. Can anyone share thier experiences with me. This is a new module that we need but do not have experience in.
We implemented it solely for outgoing shipments as part of a customer Global Transportation Label. We needed a 9-digit serial number per package shipped. It has worked well for that application.
This was almost 2 years ago, so my memory will be foggy on specific details.
We were on 10.2.200 and needed to upgrade to 10.2.400; even then I believe several pieces of PCID functionality weren’t working, or working incorrectly; like the screen cosmetics were there, but no functionality underneath. We had an Epicor expert do a 2 hour phone call with us, but I definitely felt like I knew more about the details of PCID and the issues than they did.
The Inventory Control Piece (ie CC’s and Physicals) was not working right, so we have our staff excluded them from CC’s and Physicals. Which is only possible because we use PCID’s at shipping (the PCID is created through our Handhelds during picking and then the parts are shipped out the door within 8 hours…90% of time).
We also spent a lot of time making certain it worked with our outgoing EDI feeds.
I had to do a lot of setup and testing, but once this (limited) application was done, it has been running pretty seamlessly.
Sounds like you are using it exactly how we need to and have EDI tied in. Its our EDI Customers that are driving this. WOuld you be open to a teams meeting with our key staff to demo what you are doing? It would be a small group
We could do a Zoom. I would need to talk with my boss.
@bkozic do you pick more than one item into the same PCID? If so, do you print out a label when creating PCID from handheld and then use it to scan subsequent items, or have you found another way?
No. We do Pallet Level single SKU shipments with One PCID as the “wrapper”. The Pallet can represent multiple Sales Order Lines. We have not set up printing from a mobile printer. We do not serialize parts and we do not pass Lot Tracking on the labels to the Customer, so 5 pallets with the same SKU and the same pallet quantity could be interchangeable PCID numbers, although pallets are staged in the sequence picked.
This is how we do it. Multiple orders can go into one PCID.
We work with pullers and packers. It would be nice if we could use a intermediate PCID to pull and then combine those into a shipment PCID. For now we have to pull it into a untracked bin then combine and pick/pack with the handhelds.
