PCID & Advanced Package Control

Working on an implementation of 10.2.600.9. I need to find a way to make serialized tag numbers that represent multiple quantities. The simplest example I have is we work in lbs. When I get a pallet full of many lbs I weigh it up. I then need to make a serialized tag that represents the total lbs I produced. This needs to happen between all WIP sequences. I think advanced package control would get me there. I can see lot and pcid fields in MES but they are unavailable. I really need a PCID expert as soon as I can find one to assist

Thanks
Dave

Is there a reason you do not want to use Lot tracking? This is a typical way of managing a quantity in lbs. You would need to set the part you are manufacturing on the job as lot tracked in Part maintenance. You can then specify where and how the lot number is captured in the Lots/Attributes tab.

Hi Jeff, thank you for getting back to me. My problem isn’t at the move to inventory step but also to include capturing the lot number (unique tag) at every WIP step (seq 10, 20, 30 etc). That way I get a tag no matter where I end activity. The image file I have attached in the main post shows the lot information is unavailable. I don’t know if it is tied to Advanced Package Control or not.

Is Lot Tracking checked in Part maintenance?

Yes and it allows me to make lot numbers on the “move to inventory step”, however the lot numbering in MES next the PCID field is inactive. I’ve attached a screen shot to show. Thank you for taking the time to look at this.

You wouldn’t normally have a lot number for the finished goods part until finished product is coming out of the job. In the example where you have a pallet with X number of lbs, wouldn’t this be where you have completed manufacturing some of the rolls and are putting them into inventory? Not necessarily completed the job, but finished some parts.

Our jobs have many steps and require tagging at all of them even when just moving with WIP itself. We do create a final tag when putting any production into inventory but what we need seems more like the PCID or Lot identifiers in WIP. Any idea why the Lot field is not active in MES as show in the screen shot?

Lot’s and PCID’s do not (to my knowledge) have any functionality in WIP.

I would not disagree but why are the fields in the MES end activity screen?

Because when you are completing the last op, you can request a move and create a lot. That then gets combined with the move and receive job to inventory. The operation has to be the last operation.

One solution could be to build a customization creating the lot number when the job is created and use that to populate the tag. I had a client who did this, making the lot number equal to the job number which also helps the operators to identify the WIP they need to work on.

There’s a checkbox for that.

I can create many tags per job per operation sequence. If I have a job for 10,000 lbs each tag could range from 100 to 1000lbs. I need a unique tag number each time I claim any quantity complete. This tag represents many lbs to 1 unique tag number

I went to the MES on the final step to inventory and these fields are still not available

So there is something wrong in your setup.

I’m assuming you’ve been able to use PCID in other places in the system?

Yes, the limitation is in MES. Are you licensed for “Advanced Package Control”? We only have AMM so even in site setup, packaging the lower section is unavailable. See attached image

Why don’t you have enable package control checked?

We don’t have advanced package control. Just AMM.

Good point about the checkbox. In my client’s case the customization was to create the lot behind the scenes when the job was created. The checkbox sets it at the end of the job. The client wanted the lot earlier in the process for attaching documents like manufacturer certifications.
