PartPlant.RawMaterial?

I have often wondered about the purpose of the field PartPlant.RawMaterial?
The only info I’ve been able to find on this field was in an old V8 thread which stated “this field was added for interfacing with MicroEstimating. Where MicroEstimating needed this to differentiate a purchased raw material from just a purchased part”.

So I am thinking I can re-purpose this field for whatever I want?

And…
Now I’m wondering how to find other fields like this?
Possible alternative to those old, built-in UD fields - which I sometimes mass at those sites where performing a regen is a “project” in itself.

I have to be honest with you Bruce. Almost every single time I’ve been a part of repurposing a field, it has gone badly. UD fields are nearly free…

Yeah, I guess re-purposing does give me a nagging feeling too.

The only reason I even think about it anymore is those sites that run multiple shifts, 24 hours a day, Getting a datamodel regenerated can be a stumbling block for otherwise simple updates.
