Part UOM Purchasing vs Inventory

We recently got notice from a paint vendor that they will only be selling kits for multi-part paint. The issues is that we keep inventory based on each individual item. For examples, we have a top-coat (Part A) the requires a hardener (Part B). Both have to be ordered together in gallons and have a 1:1 ratio. We keep inventory in gallons for each. The vendor will now only be selling these in kits, 1 gallon of Part A and 1 gallon of Part B. We also have current inventory. We buy all paint to inventory and issue what is needed to each job.

Something tells me we are going to have to create new part numbers for the kits, hang material and order them as kits and we will just have to make sure we use up all the Part A and Part B that are not as a kit sitting in inventory and kits used last. I know this is a long shot but, is the another way to do this with out creating new part numbers? If not, is there a way to transfer the inventory of 2 part numbers into one?

Hi Amanda,
If you are forced to order the single ‘kit’ parts from the supplier, you will probably need to create the new parts. If/when you end up creating new parts to represent the ‘kits’ and inventory them in that way, I think your only option to ‘combine’ the existing individual A & B parts into the kits, would be quantity adjustments. Decrease the A & B parts, and increase the quantity of the new kit parts. You’d also need to do some Cost Adjustments in order for the inventory valuation to balance out.

There are several of us that would love to have the ability to order a ‘kit’ as a single part, and have it automatically receive into inventory (or to a job) as the individual parts. There is an ‘Epicor Idea’ for this, if you would like to log in and vote for it.
