Part Revision Approval / Undo Checkout in Engineering Workbench

The change logging necessary to support the Undo (that any MS-Office user has become so fond) of does not exist in Vantage (at least on 8.03.405a). We have seen that deletion of records (orderline & orderrel for example) DELETES ANY CHANGE HISTORY ON THAT RECORD. (Ridiculous!) I can't state categorically that is 100% true against every possible chglog enabled table.field - but it is true of many (and the 1/2 dozen or so tables involved in ECOs & PartRev methods probably suffer from this to some degree or another).

Simple workaround (which you can enforce witha vb client customization if you want... Not really needed as it is a few mouse clicks that are easily accomplished compared to the overall task of major MoM editing) - Always create a copy of the part-rev method you are about to edit by creating an alternate method.

That way, if things go awry, you can copy the original details back from this alternate.

Subject: [Vantage] Part Revision Approval / Undo Checkout in Engineering Workbench

I check out a part in Engineering Workbench to make some changes. The part was previously approved. I make the changes and then realize that I need to undo the changes. So, I select undo checkout. Naturally, the part should go back to it's original state and be "approved." This is what I thought would happen, anyway. This however does not seem to be the case.

I submitted a call on this back in January 2008. A year later, Epicor states that this will not be considered. They further state that "the user can change the checkbox in company configuration so that revisions are not unapproved upon checkout then they do not have to worry about approving and unapproving them."

I don't understand why they would suggest this. I want to have the "Unapprove Revision on Checkout" in the Company configuration selected. If someone is making a change, I don't want to be able to pull the method.

Shouldn't it be that undo checkout automatically puts the part revision back to the way it was before the checkout?

Thoughts?

Purpose: In Engineering workbench, if I checkout a part that was previously approved and then decide to Undo Checkout, the part does not go back to "approved" status, even though nothing was done to the part.

Suggested Enhancement:
Update schema so that undoing a checkout will restore the part to its previous state.

ENH REVIEW 1/29/09
this enhancement will not considered at this time.

The user can change the checkbox in company configuration so that revisions are not unapproved upon checkout then they do not have to worry about approving and unapproving them.
