Overrun parts

We do something similar.

Create a part number for the material.

Make a sub assembly in the job.

Do a reciept from manufacturing for the sub assembly.

The labor & material costs should go to stock.

Option 1
Make up a part number for this partially finished part.
Salvage 75 of these parts from the job.
Keep in mind salvage only relieves mtl costs.

Option 2
Auto receive to inventory from that operation.
Put a material line in for the next operation.
Issue 50 back into the next operation.

Disclaimers
I never did either.

Advice
Pat these folks on the back. Without their mistakes life would not be
as interesting

Hello all,
I would like to get any feedback about how people handle this type of scenario.

We have a job that has multiple operations. The first operation requires a hole drilled. For some reason, instead of drilling holes in 50 pieces of bar stock, they drilled it in 125 pieces. We would like to move those into inventory or some sort of holding bin for possible future use. How would you handle this if it's not the finished part? It has no part number because it's no longer the bar stock and not the finish part either? Any ideas on this?

Thanks,

Jasper
