OT: Windows 2000 Server + IP Addresses

Jessee,

Well, the good news is that if it is a Microsoft bug that is causing the
problem, Microsoft won't charge you for the incident. My experience with
them has been very positive. Their support people are always very well
informed and intelligent people. In several cases, I have spent more than
ten hours on the phone with them (total time) to get a problem fixed. Most
support techs won't spend 10 minutes on the phone with you before they send
you some convoluted instructions and ask you to call them back with the
results.

It is a bit of a gamble to use one of your prepaid incidents or pay the $245
for a support call if it turns out to be a configuration issue (in which
case they will charge you). But whether they fix the problem for free or
you spend the money to resolve the issue, it will be worth it to have the
problem fixed. At some point you have to ask yourself how much time you
have spent trying to fix the problem on your own; what is your time worth;
and what is this really costing the company in downtime and wasted
resources.

Good luck!

Matt:

Well I FINALLY got a response in one of the million newsgroups I sent my
request into. I tried it out and to tell you the truth it mostly talks
about configuring the DNS server part of it which we don't run here. So,
most of this article didn't apply and I am all ready running SP3 on this
computer which the article says fixes this problem.

So I changed a couple of the registry settings in the computer that I
happened to find and then rebooted the server. I guess I will see what
happens. But I wanted to forward this on to you right now to see what
you're results are if you want to try to fix it, I will also let you know
my
results for this issue if this problem still occurs or not.

The response from a supposed Marina is listed below, I pulled this out of
a
Networking Newsgroup on Microsoft's website. My next thing I think I am
going to try is actually using one of my support incidents and calling
Microsoft on the issue.

Hopefully this works for at least one of us.

We have the same issue at our location.

The Windows 2000 Server that handles the RAS will show up in the DNS
settings as having a RAS IP instead of the Static IP address.

The IP will switch when a remote client dials in. The only side affect we
are seeing is a few errors with the active directory.

Any suggestions would also be appreciated.

Hello All:

Sorry to bother, but I am stumped and have now ran out of resources to
finding a resolution to this problem, so I figured I would run it past
everyone here to see if anyone else has ran into something similar to
this.

The situation:

I have a Windows 2000 Server Machine running ISA Server and Terminal
Services through RAS. The machine has two network cards; one plugged
directly into our DSL Cable Router to the Internet and the second card
plugged into our LAN.

Internet Connected Network Card: Static IP Address set up for the Internet

LAN Connected Network Card: Static IP Address - 192.168.x.x

The problem:

Every couple days, maybe every week, our network starts reporting a
different IP address for the server than the static IP address is set to.
To
fix the problem (temporarily) I have to reboot the machine.

Why is this computer sending out a different IP address than statically
specified? And how do I permanently resolve this issue?

Side note: When the 2000 server gets the wrong address, it appears to be
the
RAS IP addresses that are set up for remote access dial in to the server
.... could something be set up wrong here?

Any Ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I am at a lost.

Thank You,
