That'll win them over for, oh, a couple of weeks. Then you'll have to pull
another treat out of your pocket to throw at them. ;y

The PC builder did the image so I don't know how they do it. I just order a
PC with XP license (and disks, etc..) and they load Win2K for me instead. I
assume they have a master hard drive for a "bare" Win2K config that they
drive copy to the new drives going into the new PCs. But yes, all 5 systems
are identical MB/CPU (MSI 645 Combo-L / Intel Pentium IV 2.4Ghz) and they
work fine on bootup. With the 400Mhz system bus, Geforce FX5200 128MB video
and 1GB 2100DDR RAM maybe the Sales dept. will stop whining about speed. I
guess their 500Mhz Celerons weren't good enough. ;)

Todd,
Curious. What did you use to image your ws's? Were they all the same
mobo/chipset? No burps, coughs or wheezes on bootup?

Thanks - I just found a newer packet from another PC that is labeled
"Includes SPK2" and the code for that one worked. As you had mentioned in
your off-list message it sure looks like they changed the algorithm or have
the product portion for newer builds embedded in the code. Since all 5 PCs
were imaged the same the code I used should work on the rest.

Subject: [Vantage] [OT] Win2K License Key Code
I've purchased 5 new PCs all licensed for XP but loaded with Win2K.
I've been doing this for some time now trying to standardize on Win2K.
I usually use any old Win2K license key without any problem. Now after
entering it about 17 times and double-triple checking it it constantly
comes up as invalid. Are there multiple versions of Win2K Pro that
might require different key info? Or is there some way it can know the
key code has been used elsewhere? I do know that the first 6 or so
attempts to enter it were wrong (I know I know, next time I'll get
bifocals) so could it have a lockout timer or something to prevent brute
force code bashing?
Any words of wisdom would really help.
Thanks,
Todd Caughey
