[OT] Win-XP Startup....verrrrry slow

just to chime in.. saw another similiar item when a path variable was set to a network location - so it was constantly being evaluated (as it was early on in the path variable) and slowing the system down - since the path is used to search for files. In this case the location I believe was down, compounding the issue.

This happened to me once and the problem was that the system couldn't find the
ActiveDirectory server. You first have to endure the time-outs to login and
then again for each item it sets up in the login script. Make sure your DNS is
correct and that this computer is on the domain.

Trying to setup a new PC before I cut out of here for Perspectives. Same model as previous 18 PCs this year..HP DX5150. Prior 18 h ave been very easy to setup. This one though...every time it reboots it hangs for about a minute on the greyed out login screen, then 10-15 or more minutes on 'loading personal settings'. Eventually it does come up. I can't see where anything I did was different than any other PC setup of the same model.

Any ideas about what would make the startup/login so long?

Todd,

Are you applying any Active Directory based Group Policy objects or
running log on scripts? Maybe you are having an issue with the network
connection and these objects are having difficulty being applied. Does
it function normal once it is booted up?

Todd

Never mind....mis-typed IP address for DNS server. I guess it could not find the network or the DC very well and had to do a a much slower way. Another symptom was not allowing me to create a new user becauseit could not establish a "trust relationship" with the domain.
Thanks anyway,
-Todd C.
