Good Morning Les,

I have a few customers using W2000 with the latest version of
Vantage
and all is fine. There was some talk that SP3 had some issues
with
Vantage but I have not seen any problems myself. If you have a
test
server, upgrade it there and test the whole process first, make
sure to
test Vantage for a few days to see if any "gotcha's" get you!
You should be just fine, and have a great weekend while you do
this!

Good Morning All,
Looking to upgrade some NT 4.0 Servers to W2000 Server. Besides
the
usual, are there any gotcha's to be on the lookout for? Any
words of
wisdom or caution. I know this is asking a lot for a Monday
morning :)

Thanks,

Les

My experience is that it really depends on the make of hardware and firmware
revisions, etc...
I upgraded several Dell Power Edge servers and had to update in multiple
steps the firmware on my PERC controller, INtel ProSet Server NIC's and
Fiber-Channel HostBus Adapter. (The RAID controller firmware being the most
finnicky).

Good luck, Lee

Les,

It doesn't hurt to have a W2K consultant there with you. Could save a lot
of troubleshooting time later. Besides they can explain a lot about W2K
features. $.02 worth.

Gary,
You wrote this awhile back when I had the same question. If it does not apply any more let me know. I will be finally doing the upgrade of our Vantage server (now that the other Exchange 2000/Win2K AD server is stable) in the next few weekends. As soon as I can schedule the consultant. I'll be sure to be watching over his shoulder learning all I can.
-Todd C.

Previous Response ----------------------------------------------------------
After the upgrade, the Vantage print directory needed security settings loosened (error messages when printing). Security on one other Vantage directory (I forget which one - it produced an error message) had to be loosened. After that we were rolling. Then I set up the security as recommended in the Epicor "Securing Vantage Files with NT Security" document on their web site (if you don't have that, I can email it to you). No other problems since then.

PS - If you upgrade ws's (rather than fresh installs), UNINSTALL your antivirus software. Our McAfee corrupted the registry on some of our ws's during the process.

Still applies. Good luck, Todd. Les... I forgot about this stuff. I'm
glad Todd was there to catch it. Good luck.

Gary
