OT Spamblocking

Thanks Cliff, and everyone else, for the helpful information. We were able to apply the spam filtering attributes which come with Exchange Server 2007, and my users are very pleased with the results they are seeing. The users with the most spam were receiving 100 to 200 a day which has been reduced to 2 for an entire weekend.

Thanks again

Our Barracuda is the best time saving investment my company has
made. As they say "They will send you one to test for 30 days. They have
never had one returned. It takes some fine tuning over time on a very
user friendly interface. I've had mine for two years. I'm going paste a
screen shot in where you will see it have blocked almost 14 MILLION
spams. Also, viruses never get to your exchange server. I use Symantec
Corporate AV. Pre Barracuda I would get 40-50 notifications from the AV
that it caught something a week. Now I get about ONE or TWO a month. I
don't know the size of you company, I have 150 mailboxes and it the best
investment of $2K we have ever made.

We recently started hosting our email on Exchange Server 2007 and my
users have been completely inundated with Spam (previously blocked by
our ISP). Some of the mail is being caught in the junk mailbox for
some of the users, and others it isn't. Can any of you suggest a good
solution for spamblocking? Freeware if possible!

Thanks, Tiffany

I can't think of anything free but I love this software...

http://www.marshal.com/products/mailmarshal-smtp/index.asp

... it's a damn good product. I've used a few different ones, currently
using 'PureMessage' by Sophos only because they had it allready where I
now work (I will change it though).

Mailmarshal is very easy to manage, it's powerfull and the support's
very good.

Tiffany,

Postini, handsdown.
$3 per mailbox per yr, each with 5 aliases.
Cheaper than any appliance's maintenance.

I use ORFilter - freeware. Better than nothing, uses open-relay
databases, whitelists, blacklists, etc. Can't beat the functionality
for the price.

Not aware of anything that is free at the server level, but if your talking
about a small amount of clients Google SpamBayes. We use it and it does a
real good job. For pay products at the server level I would recommend Trend
Micro products.

Barracuda Spam Appliance. Fabulous Device. 98% of the mail that is
intended for our exchange server is SPAM and is now filtered with a terrific
results. We used Symantec prior to this and had a terrible time dealing
with the volume of SPAM that still made its way to our Users

We use Mail Protector as a front-end to our Exchange server for the phishing, spam, etc. It costs ~$100/month. Worth it considering our small staff.

I Just tell them they should not be signing up for free stuff using
there work email:) Seriously I have not a single one in 6 months..

We use baracuda I like it alot, think it is like $400 a year for the
updates. Moved from Guinivere with SpamAssasin, was difficult to
configure so alot of spam got through, I think the baracuda is based
on a proprietary version of SA.
