Subject: [Vantage] OT - software for document management?

Hi Everyone, have a question that's O.T. but probably applicable to
nearly any business.

I'm looking for software -- that unfortunately I'm not sure what to call
-- "Document Management" perhaps? Although packages I've looked at that
use that name seem more focused on scanning and processing printed
paperwork.

I have a bunch of I.T. documents: PDF manuals from Epicor, Progess, etc,
and other files I've collected that I'd like to be able to store and
index with key words or assign to "collections". And search or view
collections like "all Progress v10" or "all Epicor General Ledger,
excluding those flagged obsolete".

Any suggestions on software to accomplish this, or even what to call it
so I could search more effectively?

-Thanks, Wayne

Wayne,

For files, pictures and notes: http://www.evernote.com

A basic account is free. You can access from any PC with an internet
connection, and/or run from a local install on PC or Mac with a local
document cache, or access from your smartphone. Collections
("Notebooks") and tags are supported. Search is very fast - keywords
and tags. Upload documents via email or local client or drag-n-drop.
Also makes a great project organizer (timeline, to-dos, documents).

Caveat: this is a personal solution - it does not scale.

have fun,
john

Hi Wayne
I don't think this is off-topic. You should consider the Doc-link application which is bundled with Epicor products under the name APM (Advanced Print Management). Don't be deceived by the misleading name: With APM you get a full-blown document management system which does everything you describe, and not just for epicor products. Basically anything you can print to a Windows printer, is a document you can store within Doc-link, and with any number of searchable properties. Send me an email on alex@... to discuss.
