OT: Server 2003 or 2008 for Vantage?

According to Epicor, 64-bit will not be available for OpenEdge on
Windows until 10.2A slated for 9.1 release sometime next year. The
version of the 9.0 release is 10.1c. Current versions will run fine on
64-bit OS - just in 32-bit mode.

According to the QA folks I spoke to at Perspectives, Epicor 9.0 will
be certified to run on Server 2008. 64-bit isn't a problem for the core
database/appserver components with Vantage - I'm running it under 64-bit
Server 2003 right now.

Now you say you're using 64Bit. Is it on Server 2008 or Server 2003?
I'm trying to determine if Server 2008 would be a better fit as opposed
to Server 2003

No problems. We have Dell's and 64-bit and we are a SQL user. No
issues.

I am about to purchase a really nice Dell server for a Vantage 8.03.400
installation. Is anyone running Production Vantage on a server 2008
64Bit OS? If so, any problems? Recommendations?

We are using a Dell 64 bit server. The only problem we have is the FRX does
not run on a 64 bit server, so we had to install a full version of SQL on
another server to use FRX.

When we purchased Vantage, Windows 2008 Server was just comming out. We were advised that Vantage was not certified for Windows 2008, so we purchased the Server with a 2008 license, but with Windows 2003 64bit server media.. This way we could install and use Windows 2003 under the 2008 license and upgrade to 2008 at no cost when we were ready.

Actually, the upgrade to 2008 will still cost us, since you can not migrate your CALs from 2003 to 2008, so you have to purchase them all over again.

The other downside to doing it this way (we went Dell also) is that Dell will not preinstall 2003 with this configuration, so you end up having to install it and all utilites yourself.

If this is a new installation, be warned that not all the services will run in a 64 bit environment. I believe Service Connect, advance print manager, and a few others will only run in 32 bit Windows. Of course you would want to run these on a separate server anyway..

I thought I read on this group that Epicor was not going to certify 8.xxx
for Windows Server 2008 since version 9 was coming out.

That is also what I heard. They were only certifying v9 for 2008.
