Check out www.DanbyGroup.com we ordered a Printronix printer from them about
3 years ago. We had a customer that wanted a custom label with a really
long barcode. Nothing we had here would do it. We've been happy with the
Printronix.

A specific maintenance item may be the print head. After four years this
may well be due for replacement (we get about 2 years). They definitely do
not (and are not excpected to) last forever. Especially for Thermal
Transfer (with thw wax ribbon to gum things up). Try having the head
replaced before tossing the rest out. A lot less $$ that a laser printer
suitable for the plant.

Actually, it may only need servicing I make my users do a regular cleaning
on reachable moving parts. I know a reliable service company in Ohio.

Thank you both for your advice. The Zebra back there has been there since I
have been here over 4 years now. It is also covered in crud and broken. It
still works but the quality is so poor at this point that you can't read the
barcode with a reader and we have to manually feed each label now.
Thanks
Juliet

Last time I looked into this was about two years ago and the cost per label
difference between the Zebra rolled stock and the sheet fed laser label
paper made it a better long term value to stick with the Zebra. The Zebras
also seem to print faster - start to finish then lasers and I have seen
working Zebras covered in crud that would no doubt kill a laser. Things
maybe different now. But it's nice to have a laser as backup.

Do any of you print your labels for your pallets with a laser printer?
What brand of labels do you use if you do? I am scouting ideas because we
have to replace our Zebra printer and would like to just give them a laser.
Thanks
Juliet
