OT - Internet Under Seige

Just a little information if any one is interested.
If you are using an Exchange server you might want to check out Antigen from
Sybari. It (and I believe Trend) are 2 products my Exchange users' group
swears by. We have been using Antigen for over 2 years now and it does a
good job of stopping email before it gets to those users that will open
anything. Of course it takes some work and setting up, but it sure has been
keeping hundreds of MyDoom out everyday.
Sorry to sound like a commercial. Have a good weekend everyone.
Nancy
I had to send this to all at my company a few minutes ago. Our Email
provider tech support had a broadcast message saying the MyDoom virus has
brought the whole world to its knees. Anyone else out there having
internet-related problems?

"Internet and email are operating again. But due to the MyDoom virus, the
entire Internet is having problems. The Internet slowdown brought to light
a problem we had here with our proxy server. The proxy server problem is
fixed, but the internet is still in trouble. What this means to you is that
your web pages may come up slow, or not at all, or be missing parts of them.
And your Outlook and Outlook Express email will take a long time to both
send and receive, or may give you errors. Our equipment is functioning as
it should. We'll have to wait with the rest of the world to see how the
MyDoom attack goes."

We are functioning 5 by 5. I've intercepted 14 MYDOOM attempts.
Internet is up to speed here (Akron, OH). Email is no faster or slower
than ever. I told my users yesterday I see all attachments before they
are opened. Everyone has been a good puppy.

No speed problems nor seemingly slower than normal email (YahooGroup delays running 6min) but....
Symantec AV is reporting at our email server detecting a "virus" (presumably MyDoom) about once a minute since early yesterday. But heck, I myself (not to mention each of the other 30-40 email users here) get SPAM about 3X as frequently (until very recently) so the virus is probably small potatoes compared to SPAM load. I've finally dialed ina combo of ORF and SpamBayes that reduces what I see but the junk is still traversing the Internet to get this far.

As soon as the virus started laying seige to our company, we sent out an email telling everyone not to open up particular kinds of email. But, of course, there were several users that opened up infected email anyway. So, we sent out 3 more emails stressing NOT TO OPEN UP PARTICULAR EMAIL. Our Network and Micro departments were running around the company making sure workstations were patched. My department was checking servers to make sure they were patched. So far it hasn't been a critical problem by bringing anything down on our network or email. I'm hoping that after this virus, all of IT gets together and comes up with an "Updating Workstation/Server Procedure".

By the way, we got nailed with the MSBLASTER virus and we still don't have an "Updating Workstation/Server Procedure"!! AAAaah!

Wendy, we had the same situation here until a couple of years ago. We got
hit by a virus and had to shut down every server and computer in the
company, clean them one at a time and then get them back on the network. I
think it was the Nimda virus. After all the loss of productivity we were
given approval to purchase Norton AV Corporate edition (it updates each
client machine (120 of them) every day). That software has saved us. Last
night alone it caught about 200 e-mails that had the new virus.

All this to say let a good tough virus hit their pocket book really hard and
then you get the support you need.
