[OT] Different Printing Problem - PDF files

Yes but that did not help. But since then (like about 15 minutes ago) I had the user uninstall Acrobat Reader (5.0) and install Reader 6.0 and the problem has gone away. Apparently there was some incompatibility between 5.0 and his Windows-2000 PC and/or printer drivers. I should have tried that a lot sooner.

Todd,

Have you tried to print the document as image?
There is a such option on print dialog box.

ahve seen some very strange things on the sharing PC. All his major fonts
(like Arial) are now named "Arial (PCL6)". I have a suspicion that the
"sending" PCs are running into this font issue in the PCL6 driver. Normally
I would not install the PCL6 and instead use PCL5 but the Laserjet 2100 CD
only has PCL6 for Windows-2000. My next planned step was to uninstall it
and then NOT install via the HP CD install process but rather directly
search for various driver .inf files.

OK, as long as printing is on people's mind....
Since yesterday I have had one printer (HP LJ 2100) that will not correctly print PDF files. It either leaves off most of the text or substitutes garbage characters from strange fonts. Graphic components are fine and text in graphics is unchanged. But any added text will not work. Pirnting to other printers (like HP LJ 4000) works fine. The printer is shared off of a user's LPT1 port. That user can print PDF OK but anyone connecting thru network gets garbage. Even using Acrobat instead of just Acrobat Reader does not help. Also, it was printing PDFs very light until I knocked printer resolution down to 600dpi from 1200. Perhaps a memory issue but only for network printing?

Anyone else ever have problems with PDF printing?

Thanks,

I was having a similar problem with PDFs printing to an HP5000NG on a NT4.0
network from only one user. The print would be full of squares and other
line -drawing characters. Actually had one PDF that would print in reverse
image (white on black!) when printed on the 5000. Everybody else worked just
fine. The only thing that I could find that was different on this one
computer was it had MS Office XP installed; everyone else has Office 2000. I
pulled my hair out for weeks trying to solve the issue. I finally
downloaded the latest drivers from HP and re-installed on the server. That
solved the problem.

Yeah, kinda thought it was going to be something to do with the PCL
level. That is why I asked. It is trying to "interpret". have you
checked HP website to see if there is a 5 level driver?

Or {yuck} you may have to go to 6 on all the systems. Or, have you
tried a PS driver?

If I have my "druthers" I rather have all PCL5. Not a big fan of postscript, I think it is slower. I'll check HP for newer or more complete drivers.

For now I'm out of here. Vantage 6.0 seems to be done and running so I get to come back tomorrow and re-do CR forms and install new client on users' PCs. Maybe I'll have time for the driver thing then.

Thanks for the help,
-Todd

I have had this problem in the past and the fix (or work around) is when
printing out of Adobe to check the "Print as image". This seems to solve
the font problem. I have had this happen to HP 4, Kyocera digital copier
and my HP 2100.

Hope this helps.
