OT - Comcast / Road Runner Cable Access

We second the motion. It's a great service and eliminates the firewall
headaches of other remote access solutions.

I am trying to put this together, but this is what I think I am hearing. I
have some salesmen who are accessing Vantage and email using a cable modem
and a VPN setup (through Citrix).
Some of them use Comcast and some Road Runner. It appears Road Runner is
being aquired (bought?) by Comcast. I can't find very much current
information, but Comcast seems to be in the process or will be blocking any
VPN tunneling with their cable connections, unless you subscribe to the
Comcast Pro at twice the price.
Has anyone heard of this... any experiances ... or any recommendations for a
Cable modem provider????
Thanks

I'm somewhat in the same boat. Having had cable modem service from MediaOne
which was affiliated with RoadRunner (but not @Home) then bought by AT&T
Boradband it now looks like AT&T will selel this service to Comcast. I have
been attempting to get VPN running form at home so a change in policy with
Comcast would be a real setback. As far as I know most locations have a
monopoly setup for cable service so choice in cable service is non-existant.
DSL (if available) might be an option. Other options would likely be more
expensive. Perhaps they will realize the benefits to home users (not
business locations) using the home service for VPN to the office.

This may not have much to do with what is being discussed in this, but I
find this very interesting. It seems as if ComCast is going to be going
after users that use NAT and don't pay the premium prices for this service.

Thanks Ted. The discussion thread on NAT at that link was very
enlightening. I happen to run four PCs at home NATed behind a SonicWall
SOHO box. AT&T has had no problem with this at all (or does not know). As
far as I can tell even doing NAT to one machine for firewall protection is a
legitimate use but I will now keep my ears open for hints that the ComCast
buyout will change policies for AT&T users.

Are any Citrix users out there using NFuse to connect? With Nfuse you could
use any browser and connect via an ICA-Web connection. Also, using the
browser, the remote user will only access published applications. This is an
easier way to control what the user has access to and no VPN will be
necessary to set up.

Subject: RE: [Vantage] OT - Comcast / Road Runner Cable Access

Here are some links to articles that might help. Hopefully they won't wrap
too badly. You might need to cut/past into address line.

Subject: [Vantage] OT - Comcast / Road Runner Cable Access

Thanks
