Sophie,
I access the job under the "Backup Jobs" tab and then double-click on the
nightly job that has been set up (BackupExec V8.0). There is then a tab for
"Selections" in which you can open up the various drive and share tress to
work you way down to the epicor\vantage\db (on 4.0 anyway) folder and
dselect certain files. I have deselected the various vantage.xxx files such
as B1, D1, DB etc... about 8 or 9 of them. Don't just deselect the whole
vantage\db folder if there is a subfolder containing your backvan.bat
backup. You want it to go to tape.
BTW - I also copy the backup made by backvan to a drive on another server
and (it gets backed up to tape from there too) because having it on a
different spindle and server helps me sleep better and a restore could be
done a lot faster. I am still pondering restoring automatically every night
to my "test" or sanbox database. If I get VPN working from at home I might
backup to my server there via cable modem and take care of my off-site
storage that way.
I liked the idea posted here about several backvan runs per day and am
considering it for between shifts when activity is lowest. Our backup takes
about 3 minutes for a couple hundred MB so I could sneak it in between the
clocking-out and the clocking-in.

Sophie, we also use Seagate Backup. Go into the area where you have your
scheduled backup job. You should be able to get to it through the "job
monitor" tab. Then, I believe it's under properties for that scheduled job.
Then you will go through and unclick the db file under Vantage so it does
not back it up.
If you have any questions about it, let me know!
