I have a subassembly will not load to a BOM as is unless I remove the asterisk. It comes up with an asterisk in front of it…? It doesn’t show the asterisk in Part Search, or if you type it into Part Tracker/Maintenance! I don’t know why it’s there
Do a BAQ on the Part table, I thought there was a field called ‘BasePartNum’ or something, perhaps the asterisk is there?
nope that field is blank. I think it is a user issue. testing the users steps now.
Can you show us a screenshot.
If I recall wasn’t there something where Reference Parts were prefixed to indicate they are just Reference parts.
“Comes up” from where?
I assume you’re in Eng Workbench. When you search via the Part...
button on the Materials tab?
Selected from the the Engineering → Parts tab?
Possibly a circular reference? Like trying to add the parent part number as a child of itself.

I think it is user error. I tried her steps and it looks like there is space in her excel file. Unfortunately she is out next week so I will have to wait to get with her later…thanks for all your input.
So it was “Paste Update” ??
well it was more user error with the paste.
