We are on 2023.1.5 and am looking at having a folks that are Users and Employees in Epicor use Office MES instead of opening a separate instance of Data Collection, which apparently is what they have always done. When they open initially Office MES the ‘Log In’ slideout opens and the fields are disabled. Users then have to click Cancel so they can log/clock in. Does anyone know why this is happening and if there is a setting to change/fix this? Or am I trying to use Office MES in a way it isn’t designed for?
The User ID and the Employee ID are the same and User is configured in Employee and v/v.
Well - I opened a ticket because this didn’t make any sense to me. Here is the response from support:
Given that each user and employee are linked, you would need to have your users perform a Clock In first. Navigate to Production Management/Data Collection/General Operations/Clock In. This then makes Office MES automatically log in the employee that was clocked in without the need to enter employee number or shift information. See below a relevant article on the matter. I asked why it works that way since it takes more clicks to do that than to just launch Office MES, click Cancel and then login, and apparently it is working as designed. Perhaps this will be a good reason for me to play in Application Studio again to see if I can make that a little easier for the users.
BTW - I am on the Cloud - using 2023.2 - still works as you suggested.
Epicor development doesn’t understand efficiency when working on user interfaces.
Seems like an extra click is being added to many forms that were done with fewer or none at all.
I would enter an idea to improve the user experience on this. I feel like through the right channels this would for sure get addressed with the new focus on UX vs just getting it working at all.
Thanks for the idea to create an idea - done!
