[off-topic] Old guys/gals?

I have a high resolution graphics pack for that ZX-81 if you are interested, and a proper keyboard.

Please let me add one more-found a box in my garage containing the punched
cards for the Fortran and Cobol programs I wrote in college. They are not
heavy enough for doorstops, so they are in the landfill.

Lydia
Landfill! I hope a few of those ended up in museums somewhere!!! I found
one being used as a bookmark and was tickled to be able to show a real one
to my kids! The business school at my University was designed to look
like a computer punched card when it was built in the late 70's. Hmmm!
It's little wonder that the University is on a campaign to build a new
structure. I wonder how many kids on campus today know that piece of
trivia!?! $.02 of "memory" from another dinosaur!

I may have a real relic, A Post VersaLog. For those of you that just read
that and said "What?" It's a slide rule that I proudly display behind my
desk.

I used it in my early days of Engineering before desktop calculators were
invented that could do trig & Etc.

I'm a product of 80s' technology, one of my engineering professors made us
perform all mathematic functions with a slide rule. In fact, I still have it
on top of my PC with an RS232 cable glued to it to confuse young engineers.

I actually have a slide rule, (My dad's) but its in my collection of antique
technology examples, (a 1936 Philco tube radio , still works/ a 1948
television tube tester and tubes, still works/ a 1944 volt ohm meter/ a 1954
Channel master transistor radio) plus other odd bits. And I've resisted
replying to this thread because I was expecting the moderators to quash all

Please let me add one more-found a box in my garage containing the punched

No, the moderators do well and by now you should have gotten a real kick out
of us Old Work Horses.

The youngsters today really have it tough. Sort of like, I remember George
Jetson (for those too young to remember, a cartoon) telling his wife he had
a really rough day, he had to push "the" button 4 times in one day.

Oh well each generation has it's stories of how rough the past was, so we
should enjoy each day and the technology we have. For tomorrow this too
will change!

And I've resisted
replying to this thread because I was expecting the moderators to quash all
the jocularity and humor.

In another life I used to program CNC machines which could only read from a
reel of punched paper tape. I would tell to my clients that a blank reel of
tape was $10.00, I could add the holes for $500.00 but if they wanted the
holes in the right locations then the charge was $10,000.00

I think today its called adding value to the supply chain.

It's good to know there are so many seasoned techies out there.

We just upgraded our CNC Strippit, made in 1971, from that same tape
about ten months ago.

My sister-in-law uses the family's Commodore 64 monitor as her TV. I
smile every time I see it.

P.S. I am only 27 but remember writing my first programs on our
Commodore 64 we got for Christmas. What a fun Christmas Vacation. If
only I knew then...
And to think my junior high memories consist of programming DOS BASIC and
C++ programs on a lunchbox 80386 33mhz with an archaic CGA video card......
Those were the good old days......

When I was young we couldn't afford shoes so we had to go barefoot all of
the time which wasn't bad but in the winter when we needed extra traction we
had to wrap barb wire around our feet. I can't say I cared for that much.

Kids these days have it soooo easy ... ( Did I mention it was 10 miles to
school? Uphill both ways ... )

And I've resisted
replying to this thread because I was expecting the moderators to quash all
the jocularity and humor.

I may have a real relic, A Post VersaLog. For those of you that just read
that and said "What?" It's a slide rule that I proudly display behind my
desk.

I used it in my early days of Engineering before desktop calculators were
invented that could do trig & Etc.

Please let me add one more-found a box in my garage containing the punched
cards for the Fortran and Cobol programs I wrote in college. They are not
heavy enough for doorstops, so they are in the landfill.
