nowhere. My question is I want to control the types of sites people can

In the software thats out there is it smart enough where if you ask for just

"engineering sites" it can pick them out so they are not going on Naked News

all day.

Just like a new toy there are going to be a period of abuse of the net,
which
is costly to us since we are a small company.

I am setting up a internet / intranet within our company soon, we were
finally able to get something besides dial-up out here is the middle of
nowhere. My question is I want to control the types of sites people can goto.
In the software thats out there is it smart enough where if you ask for just
"engineering sites" it can pick them out so they are not going on Naked News
all day.

John,

Before you start looking into software consult your corporate lawyer.
You need to find out what state laws exist concerning internet browsing,
email and voice monitoring.

Here in Delaware we are required to obtain an employee signed "notification
of monitoring".
We must also notify the employee at least once a day electronically that
they are being monitored.

Do this first, to avoid lawsuits later.

We use Surfcontrol and it works very well for us. It has some predefined
categories, so you can either block out the adult site categories and allow
everything else, or more along the lines of what you suggested, create your
own list of "Engineering Sites" and "Sales Sites" and whatever else and only
allow those specific departments to those specific sites.
