[Off Topic] E-size scanning and printing solution

Rhonda:

Our engineers want higher resolution than the Ideal FSS - there was talk
that HP was going to add a scanner capability to their plotters - we have a
750C and an 800 and they print beautifully. Couldn't find anything about it
though. We also looked at a Korean plotter/scanner, but it was 20K+ and we
could never see a "working" demo, so that put us off of that. Told the
engineering department to start having bake sales. We have an old blue line
copier that smells bad, coughs out ammonia and still works.

Lydia
found an Ideal FSS 4300 with software somewhere in the 7k range. It has
about 200 true dpi and 400 interpolated dpi but I don't know if that is
sufficiant. I also checked on the HP designjet 500 for the printing
solution as opposed to the Xerox printer. Did you look at anything esle
other than Xerox.

Hello,

I was hoping to get some feed back on how others have addressed scanning and
printing E-size drawings on a limited budget. What brand of printer or
scanners do you use and are they sufficient for small to medium operation.
We are looking at this solution as opposed to just getting a copier because
we want to scan our old drawings in to an electronic format as well as using
the scan and print solution as a way of copying. Recommendations would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Rhonda
Rhonda:

The e-size scanners are pretty costly-we were recently quoted in the 25-30K
(Xerox) range, but there are services that will scan your drawings into
electronic format AT YOUR SITE. Check under graphics, copiers and blueprint
copies. They do the work for an hourly or per piece + set up cost. We are
deciding now.

We looked at the Oce, Xerox and KIP. We ended up going with a used KIP
system at our Chicago plant, printer, copier and plotter for $12,500, but we
bought it used from another company.

We also found some refurbished Xerox systems, but they were still in the low
$20,000's and the Oce systems were even more expensive than the Xerox.
