[off topic] Day Light Saving Time

Doh! Forgot to mention... IIRC, after you patch, you need to go into
the timezones control panel and:
Select a different zone ; apply ; reset to correct zone ; apply
for the change to take effect.

Good Morning.

When I came in this morning my clock on the Windows 2000 Server (which runs
Vantage) keep changing its time to go back one hour. I change correct the
time manually but it keeps reverting back to one hour late.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I thought there was a patch fix for this
from Windows but I can not find it.

Any suggestions would be great. – Every ½ I am fixing our time.

Dina,
The fix for that is called TZEDIT and used to be available on Microsoft's site. You can also uncheck your "Automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time"
on your server to stop it from changing the time back on you until you get the fix installed.

There is, unfortunately, no "patch" for Windows2000 (that I know of), but you could use the TZEdit program, which I only just learned of from Julie's post.

The way Windows handles time is that it sets the clock to GMT, then calculates the offset and displays the adjusted time. So, when you set your server's time manually, you are actually changing the internal clock from GMT to GMT +1. Then, because you're in PA, your computer subtracts 5 (EST per pre-2007 DST dates) instead of 4 (EDT per DST2007).

If you have your server set to sync its time with another computer on your network (or with the Internet time servers), it sets the internal clock back to GMT. Since Windows2000 doesn't know about the DST2007 date change, it adjusts back to GMT -5.

For the next week, I think you have two options: 1) Change the time-zone from GMT-5 to GMT-4, then change it back again next week; 2) turn off sync'ing of time, which may be difficult if it's set per group-policy. Or, try out the TZEdit program, available here:

Dina,
Is it possible the server is picking up the time from another computer with the wrong time. I have my servers synch time with one specific server - just a thought.

The Microsoft patch does work though.

Nancy and too all.

We used the Microsoft patch - so we should be okay. At first I did not
think it was working because Vantage time was wrong. But I stopped and
restarted progress service and all for now seems okay. I am crossing my
fingers.

This site has a free utility. One click, and it installs the patches
