Off-Site Backup Solutions

Our initial seed was about 40GB uncompressed.

We initially started out with just AmeriVault and they hooked up a small
Dell Vault on out LAN to do the initial seed. Plus it helped that they
were only 30 miles away.

We use Comcast Business cable and we get like 6mb download and 1 - 1.5mb
upload.

If I am reading my logs correctly...and I don't think I am...I am
uploading about 500MB/day.

Joe,

Can you give me an idea of what type of bandwidth you have, how much
data you originally backed and how much differential data gets backed up
everyday?

Thanks,

I use two vendors. AmeriVault and VaultLogix.

AmeriVault charges for additional plug-ins like Exchange and SQL and
VaultLogix does not.

I pay $17/GB, which GBs are measure as compressed data on their vaults.

Both use delta backups, which means that, after the initial seeding,
only the portion of the file that changed gets backed up.

Because the backup sets are on-line, the traditional problems of using
delta backups with tape systems are no longer an issue. Restoring files
from any backup set is seamless.

Hi All,

Does anyone on this list use any type of Backup solution that uploads to
a
location off-site? If so, who do you use and what kind of cost is
associated
with the purchase of the software and storage of your backups at a
remote
location?

I've been using Mozy (Mozy.com) - about $6/Mo - unlimited storage. (Unlimited
in space but you're going to be limited by bandwidth - especially if you don't
have symmetric speeds up and down.
