Not Live Yet 9.05.702 - Server Running Slow - Rebooted now Fast?

Thanks Calvin,

So far restarting the app servers really helped, after I'm under more of
a full load I was planning on using the Performance Diagnostic Tool.

Pat -

There is also a Performance Diagnostic Tool from Epicor. This tool
nicely analyzes the server log files to point you in the direction of
slow running processes quickly.

Epicor provides a performance tuning guide that might be worth taking a

Rebooted now Fast? Where do I look to monitor this?

Investigated a user complaint on Job Number V056500 that it took over 3
minutes to RETRIEVE on the MFg Receipts Tab.
I looked at the server as saw a bunch of Java.exe process growing and my
server CPU at 60% which seems kind of crazy on a new server with just 3
or 4 users logged in.

I killed some of the Java.exe sessions which was not very bright.
Rebooted the server and now performance is good.
The job retrieved the Mfg Receipts record in 18 seconds. Server
typically sits at 1% CPU Utilization not 60%.

Where should I look?
Do I need to restart the app servers once and a while? Just some or All?

All comments welcome.

You should have a scheduled task to recycle your Appservers weekly,
This doesn't need to be a full server restart, you can utilise a script with asbman as the command to lookup.

The java.exe are your brokers which are running your _proapsvr instances.

If you download the Process Explorer from Microsoft, formerly Sysinternals,
then you can see the hierarchy of the processes.

So to further delve into things...

What is the distribution of your disks for use? What's installed where?
What do your .pf files look like? What about your settings in openedge for
the db?

Have you gone through the performance tuning document yet?

So to further delve into things...

What is the distribution of your disks for use? What's installed where?
What do your .pf files look like? What about your settings in openedge
for
the db?

Have you gone through the performance tuning document yet?

Rebooted
now Fast? Where do I look to monitor this?

Investigated a user complaint on Job Number V056500 that it took over 3
minutes to RETRIEVE on the MFg Receipts Tab.
I looked at the server as saw a bunch of Java.exe process growing and my
server CPU at 60% which seems kind of crazy on a new server with just 3
or 4
users logged in.

I killed some of the Java.exe sessions which was not very bright.
Rebooted the server and now performance is good.
The job retrieved the Mfg Receipts record in 18 seconds. Server
typically
sits at 1% CPU Utilization not 60%.

Where should I look?
Do I need to restart the app servers once and a while? Just some or All?

All comments welcome.

Pat -

There is also a Performance Diagnostic Tool from Epicor. This tool nicely analyzes the server log files to point you in the direction of slow running processes quickly.
