I am going to install Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition on my Vantage 5.1
Server running Windows 2000. What directories should be excluded from the
daily scan?

Thanks,

Fausto

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
We have NAV Corp. Edition running, and I scan everything every night
without any problems. We are using NT.

It's probably a good idea to scan everything on a nightly basis if you can.
However, in some environments the active scanning functionality of virus
software (which scans every file being accessed) slows down vantage, even
causing errors. For the vantage directory, you may want to scale it down so
that only files being written to the disk are scanned, or exclude it
entirely, as we have. I'm not the guy who takes care of NAV, so I don't
know the exact steps. It would probably be a good idea to exclude the main
database files entirely.

However, you should make sure that your vantage directory is read only to
everyone but Admins, (you don't need write access to the db file in order to
use vantage) That way if a newborn virus ever did get through on a
workstation, (as has happened with us, even having the latest NAV update),
chances are the virus would not have any permissions to corrupt the vantage
directory.

This is our configuration and it runs quite well
We have Norton Corporate installed on the same server as Vantage
(Actually on a seperate partition)
NAV goes out every night and checks & if necessary, grabs the latest
virus definitions
Then performs a virus sweep on the whole network (AKA Server Drives
and Clients PC's) at 3am

On the client side we have chosen to exclude any heavily used network
drives such as the Vantage drives

Many a time I have come in and first thing on my PC is a warning that
a virus was found, virus name, client's name etc

This works VERY Well for us

Hope this helps
