Non-Conformance and DMR process question

I’m of the opinion that if you have the system set to flag the parts for receipt inspection, then send them down that route, if you discover or suspect non-conforming parts through the receipt process or thereafter that are not designated for receiving inspection then start at non-conformance. Both routes still lead you to the same airport but it’s cleaner from a process control standpoint as well as roles & responsibilities.

ok, I understand but what if you have parts that come straight from shipping to inspection because they have to be inspected upon receipt. Do you start a Non-Conformance first? Or go straight to inspection processing?

Thanks

When you do the inspection processing you are working the non-conformance. The non-conformance id is available at that time.

When we fail a part from PO Receipts in Inspection Processing it creates a DMR# but not a Non-Conformance.
We are trying to help Quality get using what we have and their processes seem skewed. So I am learning too.

So in essence, the PO Receipt is treated like a non-conformance and I believe it is assigned a Non-conformance number.

From there, if the quantity is “passed”, it goes to stock, a job, or a subcontract job. The “failed” quantity goes to a DMR for processing.
