No suggestion to purchase a purchased part with demand and not enough stock

Reported problems from our buyer below… Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Please explain why No PO Suggestion appears.

On 2/17/2021 I had ordered SD-8GB-BLANK for SO123502 on PO26695. The sales order is for quantity 500. The SD-8GB-BLANK are 96 min/mult. So the PO is for 576. Up until today we did not have a confirmed ship date on the PO26695. Constant expedites for over 1-1/2 years. Today I get shipping notification PO26695.
I want to let everyone know we can finally ship this Sales Order. I went into time phase to get the sales order. That is when I see we have another SO124070 needing 560 of this same part SD-8GB-BLANK. There is no PO suggestion showing in time phase. I have not purchased these. SO124070 was entered on 06/16/2021.

Did I see PO Suggestion for SO123502? I do not remember. I could have heard we got the order and sent the PO to the supplier or maybe I did get the suggestion in February.

Here is what Time Phase looks like right now. I have to get these on order so it will not look like this in a few minutes
Also the part seems have all the correct boxes checked that would make t Generate PO Suggestions (screenshots below.

Are you running Process MRP or Generate Suggestions? did you run with a cut off date?

Ah yes, i forgot about cutoff date… Can you remind me which date it looks at to know if it should plan?

Below is a screenshot of process MRP. Our cutoff date is blank, after reviewing past support cases I see Epicor support indicated a blank date indicates it should plan for everything, but in practice we were seeing it plan 6 weeks out…

that is correct a blank cut off date should get everything. Are you saying you are only seeing 6 weeks out with a blank cut off date?

Sorry I may be adding confusion. If helpful I rarely work in this area so my knowledge is not very good… I just looked at production planner and I see jobs through Dec 2023 listed, see screenshot below.

Any pointers where to go from here would be much appreciated!

Your time phase window shows MRP hasn’t ran since September 27th?

PO 26695, is it locked?

Also,

  • Are there reschedule in/out deltas on the part?
  • Are there reschedule in/out deltas on the part class?

Looking at the Time Phase window, it shows SO 124070/1/1, which takes the balance below zero, is due 6/6/2023 and a lead time of 182. So, a PO suggestion is not needed until 12/6/2022.

These are old screenshots from when the problem was reported… It runs each night, which I verified.

Thanks so much, that makes a ton of sense I’ll pass this along to our buyer!

It turns out the order release was unfirmed so there was no demand…

So, it still shows in Time Phase when the order release is not firm?

Also, @A.Baeisa and I collaborated on this list once upon a time at EUG. May help in the future.

Correct an unfirmed sales order release will show up in time phase. Kudos to @LarsonSolutions for figuring this out in like 10 minutes

There is one pending question, I’ll start a new thread, as the suggestion from @jgreenaway has worried our buyer we won’t get PO suggestions until it’s time to buy, but the problem is with today’s supply chain issues lead times are a big unknown…

Hi Eddie, please let your buyer know my answer was incorrect. If MRP (or Generate Suggestions) is run with no cut-off date or at least past the date of need, they WILL get PO suggestions. I was wrong and should have edited my post.
