So, I got an email to take a poll for ideas. Apparently, some people complained about the landing page for part being removed, and now they are bringing it back. The options were “1. bring it back and 2. bring it back in a slightly different way”
I would really like to know how the landing page for parts can be useful without having to use the search? Unless I’m misunderstanding something, you can’t (couldn’t) configure it to be a useful search at the outset of going to the part page right? You had to wait for it to load, then you can start doing some things with the grid, but that’s it. It just brings back a list of parts, sorted by part number.
Can somehow explain, or better yet show me how they would use that landing page without having to go right to the search? And not just in a training… need to click on a part to get to any part… type of scenario.
I can’t think of any time that you either don’t have the specific part number you are trying to get to, or need to have a more advance search then just sorting by one of the columns. Like searching by description or class or both at the same time, or something.
ok, so I’ll respond to my own question a bit because I didn’t know you could do this. You can add filters and type in on the top of the column. So that part makes this a lot more useful. (So I take back some of what I said)
Being able to filter multiple columns is pretty nice on the landing page vs the basic search where you can put in some criteria on the part description (which always seemed unreliable in the results).
Once you do the search… it opens up a grid with results… which yes, you can then turn on filters and further refine… but if you can do all that from the landing page, then its a lot less clicking to get what you want.
The problem with the landing page is that it takes time to load. If you know the PN… then it just gets in the way. If you don’t then its useful.
That was the complaint. Even if you went to a part via context menu, Kinetic took time to open the landing page… then move on.
They need to make the initial loaded page the main part entry form, and then maybe allow you to back up (in the breadcrumb bar) to the landing page IF YOU WANT.
