New Tax Tables

Here is the info again on the NEW tax tables copied right from the IRS
site. Use them for all wages paid after June 30,2001. This is in
addition to "the check". The site also has information on the check
mailing and even when to expect it based on the last numbers in your
social security number.

New Withholding Tables for Wages Paid After June 30, 2001
Publication 15-T, New Withholding Tables for 2001, is now available. The
new withholding tables in Pub. 15-T reflect the change in the income tax
rates on individuals beginning July 1, 2001. The change is a result of
the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. Employers
should begin withholding using the new tables as soon as possible for
wages paid after June 30, 2001. The new tables are a supplement to
Publications 15, 15-A, and 51 and should be used instead of the tables
in those publications.

Here it is right from the IRS Web site. www.irs.gov

Am I right in assuming that when the new tax tables come out we have to
overlay year 2001 since it looks at the year to determine which tax table to
use? In other words, if I want a record of what was out there for the first
half of 2001 I will just have to do a print screen.

Sandy,

Are there going to be mid-year tax table changes? I hadn't heard about that
yet. If that's the case, I'll probably just hang on to the old Circular E
(which contains the old tables) for posterity and overwrite the ones in
Vantage. The help file on tax tables makes it sound like you can't have two
tables for the same type (single/married) for the same year.

Jon and Sandy
Please correct me if I'm wrong. The check that the IRS is sending
taxpayers is the correction for 2001 back to January through
December. If we start reducing the withholding now our empoyees cold
wind up owing taxes at the end of the year.
