I dont know about the rest.

Â
Is it possible to wirte a script or batch file to logoff Data Collection PC in
Vantage 8.03 and then another script or batch file to shut down the Vantage 8.03
Progress DB, then truncate the bi file and then run the backup, then startup the
Progress DB again.

Ideally,

I would have a script or batch file on each of the 10 data collection PC and add
it to the AT Scheduler to run at a specific time to shutdown Data Collection.
Then another script or batch file to run at a specific time to start the Data
Collection back up.

Then a batch or script to run on the Vantage 8.03 server to shutdown the
Progress DB, then truncate the bi file, then do an offline backup and then start
the Progress DB back up.

Has anybody tried this yet. We have to truncate our bi file every week.

I have been watching the posts on bi file growth to see if we might have any of
those problems.

TIA,

Randy Duly

For the Data Collection machines there is no way to script it to logoff the machine from my knowledge. However using VBScript you can run a recursive statement checking all the running processes and For Each MfgSys.exe kill the process. Below is the code that I use for a quick application restart that I use in remote offices when the client crashes. You should be able to break it up into 2 parts, 1 to kill it, the other to start it.

strComputer = "."
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _
& "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
Set colProcessList = objWMIService.ExecQuery _
("SELECT * FROM Win32_Process WHERE Name = 'MfgSys.exe'")
For Each objProcess in colProcessList
objProcess.Terminate()
Next

Dim oShell
Set oShell = WScript.CreateObject ("WScript.Shell")
oShell.run "C:\client803.vantage\client\MfgSys.exe -hh /CONFIG=811.mfgsys",,FALSE

As for scripting the stopping and truncating of the Progress server that can be done via .bat. I don't know the exact command to do it, you would need to contact epicor or call support for the info.

Below is the .bat that I run for my nightly backup. Hopefully it will be of some use.

@ECHO OFF
SET PATH=%PATH%;E:\Epicor\oe102a\bin
E:
cd\
cd Epicor\Epicor905\db
CALL PROBKUP ONLINE MFGSYS BACKUP1
