My own 5.1 frustrations - cv/cvxa0047.p hangs on da ta conversi

Michael,

Thanks. I'll try it with no patches first and see what happens. I'll let
you know if I need the P7 or V106 patches.

I too found this error. I had walked through the conversions several times
with everything all timed out to the minute. With the last time I tried to
bring the data across, I got hung in the same spot. What I have found is
that there seems to be a problem with the Vantage 107 and Progress 10
revisions. What I have found to work is to setup the 5.1 server to Vantage
106 patch and Progress to the 7 patch. After bringing the data across, then
install the Progress 10 and the latest Vantage 107+ patch. This seems to
work very well. (tested on 4 complete trial conversions 3 to 5.1, will be
doing the actual live conversion over the Christmas week. All told, the
time works out to about 3 1/2 days.) I hope this information helps.

Has any one else run into a problem with "Program: cv/cvxa0047.p" when
doing the 5.1 database conversion? I just hung here also.

I'm in the process of doing a 3.0 to 5.1 upgrade on our test server and I've
run in to some problems. Thought I would throw them out here and see what
everyone thinks.

I've successfully gotten to 5.0, this being the third successful upgrade to
5.0 on our test server. For 5.1 the schema changes, although they took 8+
hours for a 1.5gb database, went through fine with no errors. I started the
db conversions yesterday about this time and had some errors plus now it is
hung on the same process for over 18 hours.

Here are the errors:

1. Program: cv/cves0001.p
Description: Initialize new shop load fields
Message: Updating shopload table
Error: No WrkCenter -0 record is available (91)
Occurances: 20

2. Program: cv/cvxa0043.p
Description: Fix bad partbin quantities
Error: No Whsebin record is available (91)
Occurances: 37

Now it is hung on this:

Program: cv/cvxa0047.p
Description: Reverse PartTran for shipdtl records which are not
shipped
Message: Reversing extra parttran records

We did not do a dump and load, did not close jobs, did not close financials,
etc. I just did a db copy from each version to the next, ran the schema
changes, then the db conversions. The workstation I'm using is W98 so I
can't see any activity and only know that progress is still responding. The
server is pretty much idle at 97% and shows an occasional 1-3% usage on
_mprosrv.exe. Crash protection is turned off. My guess is this is hung and
I'm starting over again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rick
And I thought I was the only nut doing a 3.0 to 5.1 conversion over
Christmas week.

Since the 106 patch and Progress 7 patch aren't available anymore (at least
on Epicor) and I don't have them, how about if I reinstall 5.1 on the server
and try the conversion with no patches? Then I'll apply the patches after
it is done. It sure doesn't work now, so I'm willing to try anything.

Rick
This is exactly what I ended up doing. As of this morning we are live on
5.1.10 and so far so good. Touch wood.......

That should work too. If you want the Progress 7 or Vantage 106 patches I
can e-mail them to you (providing you don't have any e-mail size
restrictions.) Or I can put them on my home server for download if you
really need them.

You will need to un-install 5.1 anyway, so give it a try. I know on my
setup the Data conversions take 2hr 15min and when I was getting the 0046
hang I let it run for 2 days and nothing. At first I thought I might have
had bad data so I tried it again with a fresh copy, same thing. After
formatting the harddisk, re-installing Progress to 7 and Vantage to 106, I
ran the data conversion with the same data and in exactly 2hr 15min it was
done. I then applied the Progress 10 and Vantage 107 and they went right in
and no problems. I don't know for sure what was causing the problem
(Vantage, Progress or both), but this is what I had documented and is
working fine for me.
