Multi-plant vs. multi-company

Babette: This is a question that should be answered with the CFO in tow and a consultant ( I know you didn't want to hear that :)) and or what the separate company/division/plant functionality is going to be- revenue, expenses, etc. how will they be handled. If you are setting up separate bank account/tax id etc. for your other sites for money transactions, then they need to be separate companies. We recently added a Machine Shop facility to our company and went back and forth on this. Our accounting firm and the consultant in tow helped us firm up our decision. This can get tricky and will involve the accounting team doing multiple GL setups etc. We set up the machine shop as a Plant since their primary function is to deliver goods to us. Ofcourse it shows pseudo revenue everytime we do transfer orders to fulfill part requests etc. So there is some manipulation of the accounts and setting up of Parts Master to belong to that plant as well. My vote on
this one is getting a consultant in on this one- A bad decision could be rather costly down the road.
Thx
RSN

Subject: [Vantage] Multi-plant vs. multi-company

Hello Vantage users:

We are transitioning from Vantage 6.1 to Vantage 8.
We are entering all data and recreating the structure.
We own the multi-site module yet are unsure of how to set it up.
We welcome comments from anyone with experience in setting up multiple
plants.

Our situation:
1) One company, one federal ID, two distant sites
2) Each site manufacture different products, makes their own purchases,
their own sales
3) In Vantage 6.1 each is an individual company with separate GL, etc.
4) We want to have separate financial reports from each company AND
combined reports

Our plan:
1) Set-up Company name = Argo, set-up ledger, customers, etc. This
would be division 01
2) Set-up Company name = Kryp, " " " " "
" division 02
3) Set-up PARENT company Arg-Corp, " " " "
" division 10
4) Some customers, suppliers and parts will be inter-company items

OR........
Do we set them up as individual PLANTS in One company, each a division?
If they are plants, can we get gingival financial reports (separate by
division?)
Will we have issues will customers ? All merged?

Answer me off line if needed

Thank you in advance
