We are looking to add a company to epicor. We are going to use the multi-company module.
The question is if we have two different part number for the same part. Can multicompany(i think direct) handle this and pass the SO and PO automatically back and forth.
example company 1 buys the part on PO and there part number is widget1
company 2 manufactures the part and uses part number product2 on there sales order.
can you use the internal part cross ref module or customer cross ref module or is there something in the multi-company module that allows you to to say widget1 = product2
when you have multiple companies you can sync the two parts⌠but once you sync, then the âownerâ plant controls the settings (that you choose).
Company 1 has part number A1
Company 2 has part number A2
In company 1, you mark part A1 as a âglobal partââŚ
In company 2, you link part A2 with the global part A1.
When you setup the global part settings, you can specify which fields are linked/controlled by the global company. For example, you can specify that the Description is controlled⌠when you do this, Company 2 cannot change the part description anymore, but when Company 1 changes the description, it automatically pushes the change to company 2.
@timshuwy is 100% correct, but I will add that setting up Multi-company can be a long and involved task
If you are going to use more than just Parts, I suggest you carefully plan out what pieces you want to be multi-company - Parts, Customers, Chart of Accounts, AP, AR, Sales/POs, Currency - the list goes on. And they will need to be done in the right order. And each can have a lot of details to make it work.
You should get the Technical Reference for Multi-Site/Company setup form EpicWeb.
There is an Extended Ed session at Insights that will give you a primer on this, fyi.
With Multi Company, you can use the âTranslationsâ tab in External Company Maintenance to map fields to be transformed as they go across companies. We use that for ShipVia, TermsCode, Groups, Credit Limit, Credit Hold, FOB, & Tax Region Code. I donât see why you couldnât use it to transform part numbers tooâŚ
