MRP process scheduling job to start in 1997

We use historical dates because we have a lot of sales orders due in
past dates. Our major customer does not allow us to change our SO
required dates due to their MRP requirements. In some cases SO dates are
in the near future, but because of backward scheduling the suggestions
are created in the past. That is when the MRP Process schedules jobs in
1997 or 1998 instead of just January of 2011.

I am including the beginning portion of the scheduling log, it keeps on
rescheduling back one day at a time until it gets to 1997, the file size
is about 5MB.

Just wondering if you ever found out why MRP wanted to set historical
dates? 1997 sounds so extreme.

Still using 8.03.409C.
In my case, most historical dates can be duplicated manually when I
backtrack from the due date on a sale order or job.
But, I do have a few examples of methods that just won't set dates
correctly (or do it differently) depending on the use of
forward/backward scheduling.

Good Day Mike:

Sun went live on 11/29/10
on Epicor 9, 9.05.601B SQL-Unidata
Sun was previously on M2K (Manage-2000) 7.0 SP 5 (Informix)

I did not have the problem to that extent, but two thing did cause
very early dates:

Assuming Vantage is like E9.
1. We used to check "Allow historical dates". Un-checking it may
stop it.
2. Someone typed 1/1/1910 in Scheduled-Start-Date -- all Safety
stocks came up with that date.
If you have MRP 'scheduled" to run, open it and look
to see how it is set.

3. Below is how we run MRP.
4. Try running "Generate Suggestion" ( in E9 :: Matl-mangr >>
Purch man >> Gen Op) instead of MRP ( its faster, but only does Purch
parts).
Just to see if it acts the same.
5. On the Part.Maint side, take one of the 'bad' parts and look
for corrupted ( negative?) lead times.
6. Do you have the problem on both P and M type parts?
M parts can get all involved in the MOM and the JOB
scheduling and Shop loading if you use all that.
7. Related to 5 & 6, write a quick BAQ and show all the
'planning' parameters" - sort by each one and look for BIG numbers,
negative numbers, or corruption.
8. What did the helpline say? They can often have answers for
upgrade problems.
9. Does V8 have a "Multi-level-CTP" check-box on Part>>Plant
>>Detail screen

Len,

Thank you for the suggestions. I just resubmitted the MRP Process
without Allow Historical Dates". I'll wait to see the outcome tomorrow.

We are having problems with "M" parts which contribute to wrong
suggestion dates for "P" type. These parts were OK before the upgrade
but I'll check the BOM's and MOM's. I could not see "Multi-Level-CPT",
we are on 9.04.507 version.

4. Try running "Generate Suggestion" ( in E9 :: Matl-mangr >>

Len,

It looks like un-checking the "Allow Historical Dates" fixed the
problem. I ran a BAQ and didn't see a single suggestion job scheduled in
the past.

As far as the Multi Level CPT is concerned, it is possible they have
added that feature in 9.05 version, I checked every where for it could
not find it in 9.04.507.

Thank you so much for your help! I hope I can be of help to you or to
others in the group in the future.

Good Day Cooner:

First I want to clear up one thing. If you run MRP automatically,
then the Scheduled-Start-Date field has to be 'dynamic' = [TODAY]. I had
previously said to use today's date. but if you enter 5/21, it will
still be 5/21 four months from now.

I never got a clear idea of what the historical dates are except
that some Companies want to back schedule to the past because it allows
them to overload their shop instead of fixing all the dates.
Others let it back schedule to prevent it from forward scheduling
when it over loads work centers and then it starts suggesting a lot of
changes on sales orders or JOB's on the floor; or they allow back dating
to see how bad it is.

Short answer is, that, like many fields in E9 (V8), a few
'specialty" users want it so all must see the check box.

One thing I know it does NOT do, is affect what Part's are processed
in the MRP run, because even with "hist-Dates" checked, MRP will still
plan a part with a required date of any date in the past. It simply
prevents using that date - it uses today instead ( dependent on a few
other parameters.).
