MRP Horizon

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could help point me in the right direction, I have a request from our purchasing department for expanding our MRP horizon, they want to be able to see demand for RM to be purchased from SO’s 365 days +1 into the future. Is this just a simple case of Creating the SO in the system with the required by date and running the MRP for this to show in Time Phase or is their another set up that needs to be done? As of now I have tried the above mentioned method but am not getting the results. Any help would be much appreciated.

it all depends on two factors: 1. the DEMAND date (sales order, Sales Forecasts, MPS plan, job materials, transfer orders) that is set into the future, and 2. the Cutoff date that you use when running MRP. If you leave the cutoff date blank, then MRP will plan “forever” into the future… if you set this date to 90 days from today, then any demand after 90 days will be ignored.
So I believe that if your sales team enters an order (or a forecast) into the system that is one year out… and if you run MRP wide open, or even “today + 370 days” then you should see the demands in purchasing.

Thanks Tim, that helped.

Hi Steve,

In addition to Tim’s comments on Demand showing up, I want to mention that we have found that MRP did not count incoming POs that were outside the Days of Supply on the part. For our very long lead parts we use with forecast data, we use 365 on the part / plant’s days of supply to ensure that incoming cut POs get counted as supply.
