Sometimes them having the database is the best way for them to pinpoint your situation and let you know what's going on. With MRP, there are a lot of variables and factors that tell it when to create jobs. We've been working with it for 6 months now, and it's still not the way we want it.
You've got LeadTimes, DaysOfSupply, StartDates, ShipByDates, ProcessMRP... for each part. All of these have been factors.
I'm really hoping MRP is an evolving process, because as it stands now there are many weaknesses - especially for company's like us who have LOTS of small parts to order for each assembly.
AS far as getting them your database... I've found that our 56K connection often times-out when using a standard FTP to the epicor site. What I do is use the NT FTP commands in a Command Window and upload our database to our company's website. It takes about 10 hrs to do the upload overnight when noone else is online. I send Epicor a link to the database file on our site, then Epicor Support can download the whole Zipped Database (250MB zipped) in about 20 minutes on their T-1. It's slightly faster (and cheaper) than overnighting a CD.

Version 5.1.113.
I am currently working with support on another MRP issue. MRP told us to
delay a job, which was ok since the parts were not needed immediately to
satisfy the forecast demand. It's a slow moving item we were running to
stock. The problem was MRP also cut an unfirm job due on the same day as
the firm job already in production. We would have ended up with twice as
many parts as we needed.
Tech couldn't duplicate the problem from the fax info I sent and wanted a
copy of my database. I am going to look for other similar issues before I
send the database out.
What kind of luck have you had with sending a database to Tech? My last go
round with this kind of an response was that it just buys them some time
before they have to address the problem. We jumped from 5.0 to 5.1 too fast
and are having some problems (some of them self inflicted). So my
frustration is showing.

My scheduler is complaining that unfirm jobs seem to appear without his
running MRP. Running purchasing suggestions seems to also run MRP, which
is
generating unfirm jobs that my scheduler has already taken care of.
Obviously, this is a timing problem. How many of you use MRP and how do
you
handle this? Vantage MRP seems to be very different than the MRP we were
used to from our other software.
