MPS/Scheduling

We based our MPS on different things, like capacity, work load, educated guess on what the customer will really want and take for parts, etc. So, on one product, we build 7 a day, but the Sales order starts out at 20 this week, 40 next week, 35 the 3rd week, 45 the 4th week, etc., then they "pull" parts at 22 this week, 32 next week, 50 the 3rd week, etc, etc, and the schedule or forecast we get next week will be completely different than any of those...

We have checked out the things you mentioned a little, but maybe need to spend more time on setting them up under various parameters....

Thanks!

What was your MPS based on?
You can setup Reorder, minimum and safety quantitys to build to. Then filter
the Timephase report to look for those issues.

Hi:
I am wondering how others handle this in Vantage:
In our old system we were able to use MPS in order to schedule
production on the shop floor. The system looked at the MPS first,
then the Sales order after that if the MPS didn't cover the need.
We relied on that method to level out the load on the shop floor and
because our customers give us "general" due dates, and then use
a "pull" system to actually request parts and those schedules
fluctuate constantly. So MPS worked perfectly for us - we didn't
have to change the Sales order in order to have the production
schedule we wanted.

In Vantage, of course, the opposite is true, the Sales order is the
first thing that scheduling looks at, and we are trying to figure
out how to get around that - as we do not build according the Sales
Order. We've looked at Forecast and MPS, and the Sales Order always
takes precedence.

If anyone has a work-around or help for this, we'd be very grateful!
