We have a few of our paint numbers that have changed and the stock on the old part number (along with the cost) needs to be moved to the new part number? I thought I had seen somewhere where this couuld be done but I am not able to find it now. Suggestions?
There really is not a good way to do it. Easiest is to quantity adjust out and then back in under the new part.
If you are trying to keep a trail you can use a job. Create a new job for the new part number. Add any operation and the old part as the material. Issue the part, complete the operation, and receive new part to stock.
If you’re not trying to leave a trail, then use BAQs and DMT to create the new parts, assign the costs, and do the inventory adjustments.
A normal inventory transfer will do this.
EDIT: Nope. I must have been thinking of changing Lot Numbers.
I am just wanting the costs and qty to move from one to the other. I have already created the new part numbers so I’ll look at the DMT part of it. I was hoping I saw it somewhere in Epicor somewhere.
Normal Inventory Transfer only allows me to move locations.
one additional way to do this on smaller level is to create a JOB for the new part number, and then add the material of the old part number to as a material. You can enter the full quantity. Then when you issue the material, the cost goes into the job. if you are average cost, when you receive the job to stock, the costs will come along for the ride.
Going back in the Wayback machine, on one of our legacy products, we actually had a program that would convert one part into another… when you launched the program, it had 6 fields:
- Old Part #, Old UOM, Old Qty (we would also need Lot, Revision, and Attribute in Kinetic)
- New Part #, New UOM, New Qty (we would also need Lot, Revision, and Attribute in Kinetic)
After you entered this data, it would remove the old quantity, and transfer it to the new part, costs and all.
Just thinking out loud here, but that would make a really nice Epicor Idea. (here it is: https://epicor-manufacturing.ideas.aha.io/ideas/KIN-I-3653)
Dovetailing onto what @timshuwy said, processing the part number change as a job provides a much greater level of traceability. If you are going to do this a lot, I would recommend setting up an Operation, Resource Group, and associated Resource something like “PartChng” (for Part Change). Months/years later, when doing a PM on this part and its origin, you will be able to see that you converted Part A into Part B, and consumed x quantity of Part A to make an equal quantity of Part B. If the destination part is a purchased part, you will need to change it to a manufactured part in order to create a job for it, then once the inventory has been transferred from one to the other, change the destination part back to “Purchased”. The Job is your friend.
