Moving a V8 database from one server to another - SOLVED

I started poking around the OpenEdge documentation to find out what a word-break table was.
Turns out that then you do a fresh install of V8.03 there are only two proword files in the OE installation directory: proword.4 and proword.5
My server has two other proword files, proword.2 and proword.3.
My guess is that when V8.00 was installed it created the 2 and 3 file. The database that I was trying to move was orginally a 8.00 DB that was converted to 8.03. Because of this, I think this DB needs the 2 and 3 proword files. Once I copied the 2 and 3 from the server to my laptop, everything worked out perfectly!

This also explains why the default database that is installed to mfgsys803\db worked with out these proword files.

Joe -

Did you run the command: "prostct repair mfgsys" on the copy of the db on
the laptop?
You need to log into the V8 Administrator and verify settings.
You'll also need to update the process server in Vantage.

Calvin

Subject: [Vantage] Moving a V8 database from one server to another

Hello,

I installed Vantage 8.03 on my laptop that is running Windows XP SP2 so
that I could work out of the office and wouldn't need an internet
connection.

I backed up our database from our Vantage server and restored it to my
laptop. When I try to start the database I get an error message that
indicates that the database can't start. (Can't remember the exact error
but I will post it later if needed). I also noticed that once the
database is restored I can't do anything to it. For example, I tried to
restore again and I tried to run a couple of proutil commands against it
and in each case a get an error that says that it can't find the
"word-break table 2".

Despite the obvious hardware differences and the different OS the only
thing that is different is that Vantage is installed on the server in
D:\epicor and is installed in C:\epicorserver on the laptop.

Any idea of why I can't start the database on the server?

Thanks,

Joe Rojas
