Hi Everyone,
Long time listener, first time writer.
We have a new requirement from one of our customers that is requiring us to apply SSCC codes to each carton on a mixed pallet of goods, and then apply a parent SSCC code on the pallet itself that will contain the identities of the Child SSCC codes on the pallet.
We already have a pretty significant customization for PCID codes (for the pallet) which has proven to be a headache in and of itself without this carton level complexity. I am wondering if anyone has faced this issue with their customers and has a potential solution or idea as to how to address this.
Epicor has an out of the box method to generate SSCC codes. It uses the legal number and generates when a pack ID is created.
We use this feature and it works perfectly. However, our shipments have a strict 1:1:1 relationship with Pack ID:SSCC code:shipping container, and we do not use master packs.
I imagine it would be possible to have each of your smaller containers that require their own SSCC code to be individual pack IDs, and then combine them all into one master pack, with it’s own SSCC code.
One reason you may be struggling with this is I believe SSCC codes are generally not intended to be nestable.
thanks for the reply. I tend to agree - it seems like this new requirement is working against the system - however, we hoped that someone else had already faced this issue, as I believe this customer is making this request from all their suppliers (and they are one of the big guys). Thanks for the feedback!
